Just seen a gecko I'd like to get only problem is that the gecko is in america. So the question is would you be willing to pay the shipping costs to get animals imported to the UK or do you find it cruel to leave animals for that long whilst being shipped?

Cruel ? In what way ? The flight from the USA is 7 -10 hours, At a guess the gecko will be in transit a maximum of 24hrs in an insulated box ....... Whats the problem ?
How many geckos are you thinking of bringing over ? Most of the price will be in the shipping costs, so the more you get the cheaper the price will be spread especially if you get a few friends to get some geckos also.

Whats the problem ? me personally I prefer same day delivery to over night. A few hours in an insulated box seems somewhat less stressing that 24hours. Maybe i'm stupid i dunno but i wouldn't fancy being in a box for an hour let alone 7 to 24, i know it happens all the time but i just don't like the idea of shipping animals of any kind, would rather find a dealer near me or wait until what i wanted came up near me, with the royal python i want it looks like i'm gonna have to wait til later this year because i'm buying from a breeder near me around 20 miles away his royals have bred so i'm just gonna sit it out and wait my turn. What is the difference between being in a small dark hide overnight (er..make that in the day ) and being in a dark insulated box for slightly longer ? I think the problem here is that people are contributing human emotions to reptiles. Think about in the winter when thousands of millions of reptiles go voluntarily into deep dark holes, caves and under logs to avoid the worst of the winter temperatures. So being in a insulated box in a temperature controlled airplane hold (temps probably around mid 70's ) is like the electrics in your house failing on a warm spring day or during the temp drop at night .... nothing the reptile cant handle. Also most reptiles are agoraphobic so they don't mind small dark spaces ..... unlike a lot of humans. Punkyjen .... Only mammals need to be quarantined.

But thats there choice...... no? I think if they had a choice they would not get in a poly box and get on an airplane, i just have my feeling's on shipping any animal, i don't condone it or judge anyone doing so but myself i would rather wait til something i wanted came up nearer me thats all.
