In the ADVICE thread in this column I spoke about my experiance with a Retic, It slightly went off the original thread subject so I thought I'd open a new thread asking for peoples wierd and wonderful and scary stories about their experiences with snakes.
I have loads of stories but I want to hear others. So, tell us your stories

I've had plenty of experiences with feisty serpents. But the one I remember most was having to assist feed an adult male colombian rainbow boa I used to have.
Most of the time he was generally docile and friendly but this one time i tried feeding him he spat out the rat, pulled himself away from my hands and went for a strike.
He was literally cm's away from the old family jewels.
I have never moved so fast in all my life and till then i never knew i could do backflips lol ;D

Again another incident back when I was a kid I had a tank with 4 Garters in, 3 Males and a Female. I took each one out individualy and fed them minced beef. I had the female out who was about 2 1/2 feet long and she was tucking in nicely to a few strands of mince when suddenly she launched at my finger and bit straight into it. My initial reaction was of suprise. I prised her off my finger and put her back and decided to show everyone the U shaped pin prick sized bite marks on the tip of my index finger. I couldn't belive it, a perfect U in what looked like hundred red felt tip dots.

It amazes me at how quickly a snake can turn on you.

Yeah, I think that it had something to do with the stink of meat on that fat pink finger of mine!!! Garters are absolute fiesty buggers!!!
Snakes are bizzare, I find that snakes like Retics are naturaly moody and can just turn like that where Garters are just the old scenario of the 'short guy kicking off!!!

lol This is the main thing that's holding me back from snakes tbh. When geckos bite it doesn't hurt that much, especially since I'm used to bites and pecks from other pets I have. But a snake bite? It's too real for me.

Garters don't really hurt, just like catching yourself on a bramble, the shock is worse than the bite!!! However, some people may have a slight alergy to their saliva. They are non-venomus but have been mistaken for being venomous because of this. Saying that, if you cut yourself on a rusty nail and don't clean it out your finger will get infected, just the same as a snake bite!
Budgies are more vicious than snakes, my kids Budgie was a nightmare!!! Sadley he past away but I still got my fingers!

i had just bought a 7ft male boa...awesome thing...it was in shed and i took it in my living room for more space to exercise...i went to put it back and upon going to the room door it lashed out and bit my cheek...good job it was a bite and release lol
second was when i was cleaning out 2 adult taiwanese ratsnakes..i had been feeding the rest when i seperated the two..male went in his feed box perfectly bt the female got speedy and she started rubbing on my hand..i thought aww thats cool..she opened her mouth and started chewing on my hand..she held on for 15-20 mins lol

Another one of my experiences was when I was helping out at the local reptile shop and cleaning out the hatchling snakes. I lost count how many of the little swines had a nibble on my finger but the one that sticks out in my mind most was a little sinaloan milksnake that went for me and grabbed hold of the fleshy bit between my fingers. It wouldnt let go for at least 5 mins and even then it was chewing away at me. I was left with some lovely pin prick marks between my index and middle finger. ;D

When I brought home a lovely 6ft Brazilian rainbow boa, I persuaded the mrs to hold on to her for a minute while I did something, the boa struck at her face and snapped shut literally an inch from her nose!! I was really impressed by my mrs not dropping her or anything, putting the snake first.I`ll make a snake lover out of her yet......
