Does anyone know if the indigo snakes are venomous? Because different sites tell me different things. I know people in the US keep them, I wondered if we were allowed too?
Not sure if anyone knows anything about them but they're absolute beauties!!

I used to work with a pair. They are true beauties.
No they are not venomous but a lot of people are led to believe that they are. I am unsure why this is though

That;s weird, surely they are or they're not? I did hear a rumour that the wild ones are n somehow they cut their venom glands or something silly like that. probably just a rumour but thanks for the heads up Paul!! So if you worked with a pair does that mean you actually can get them in the UK?

They are like king snakes. They eat other snakes as part of their diet this includes venomous snakes.
Yes we get them over here but they're not that common because they are a protected species.
my friend has a pair of eastern indigos. they are beautiful. Im not sure when he plans to breed them though but I'll find out for those who are interested.

How much do they even cost? Seriously I had no idea that they're actually any in England.

I saw a few CB hatchlings going a while back for something like £125 each. I havent seen any since then so they have probably changed a bit in price.

Its a fact yes. Some people have allergic reactions to snake saliva.
I've only come across a few species of snake that have saliva that causes irritation. Diadam Rat Snakes for one apparently have strong saliva that causes irritation.

but thats normally due to neurotoxins in the venom of some snakes such as sea snakes.
