its a 7 watt mat, just had to pull it apart to see that lol, also noticed (which i forgot!) that i had put a bit of tile in the bottom, it takes away some of the heat, i remember now that without it the heat was 95! so big difference incase you didnt see on the gecko thread, 1 of the babies hatched this morning so its now a "proven" incubator LOL

as tiger and the rest have done..i have used DIY incubators but also have used bird incubators...maintain good temperatures and easily comtrolled but is best if using automatic models to disable the turning motor as turning of eggs can kill off reptile embryos as opposed to getting healthy growth in birds

yes hun, lots of people use coverted fridges, best bet would be to turn it on and put in a thermometer strip to see what temp it rests at. if it is too high try putting in a block of tile or small bit of brick as it will lower the temp slightly....let us know how you get on!

im not planning on breeding them till next yr, or maybe longer. just wanted to do some research, so i know what im letting myself in for. Another thing i worry about with breeding is, if anyone will buy the hatchlings! dont wana be left with like 20 or more snakes lol. Do pet shops buy from people they dont know?

Hi, I've also used the polly box idea with a heat mat taped to the inside of the lid and connected to a pulse stat. The eggs were in tupperware type boxes inside the polly box with damp vermiculite and the probe from a digital thermometer put in through a hole in the lid. The probe was beside the eggs so I could easily see what temp they were at. I've sort of upscaled things a bit now by using a converted pub fridge which has had the cooling system removed and a tubular heater fitted along the bottom. There is also a fan at the back which circulates the air to keep temps constant. The doors are double glazed with magnetic seals all round to stop any draughts. There are also lights inside so I can do a quick check of the eggs without opening the door. (Lazy git) lol Dunno if this pic will work.................. Bye for now, Jim

cool, iv gone round lots of shops, found a good one now, its taken a while though. The shop where i bought my firsy corn from in jan, told me they you cant sex corn snakes till they ae 2 yrs old, i laughed and left the shop, not been back since, they obviously dont have a clue!
Thats one thing at really annoys me about some rep shops, they just wana sell them, and only know basics, and make the rest up. Id love to open a rep shop one day or work in one, but i wouldn't like the spiders, noooooo.
